FilingWire Risk API — Terms of Use, Data Source & Disclaimer
Last updated: 2026-07-17 (product renamed to FilingWire Risk API; terms otherwise unchanged)
In these Terms, "we" / "us" / "the API" refer to the FilingWire Risk API and its operator; "you" means the user accessing it. Contact: hello@filingwire.io.
1. What this API provides
The FilingWire Risk API returns classified material corporate events derived from public SEC EDGAR 8-K filings — each carrying an event_type, a severity (low/medium/high/critical), a short factual summary, and a source_url back to the filing. Events are classified daily after EDGAR publishes its daily index; this is daily corporate-event *monitoring*, not a real-time feed. It returns derived signals only — not raw filing text beyond the short factual summary. This is a standalone product, separate from the FilingWire Funding API (SEC Form D), which has its own terms.
2. Data source & attribution
- SEC EDGAR (8-K). U.S. SEC filings are public records / U.S. Government works (generally not subject to copyright). We access EDGAR within its published fair-use limits (≤10 requests/second, descriptive User-Agent). Source: https://www.sec.gov/edgar. The SEC does not endorse this product.
3. Personal data
We store business information only — company names and public filing metadata. Personal names are stripped during ingestion and are never stored or served. The API exposes no personal or contact data.
4. Accuracy, freshness & "no advice" disclaimer
- The data is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for a particular purpose.
- Event classification (
event_type,severity,summary) is derived from the filing's structured Item codes and LLM-assisted classification, and may be incomplete or wrong. Companies are keyed by SEC CIK (a stock ticker resolves to a CIK via SEC's public company map; there is no per-event ticker field). Events are refreshed daily, not in real time. Verify against the linked filing before relying on any signal. - This is information, not advice. Nothing here is investment, financial, legal, or tax advice, or a recommendation to buy or sell any security. Verify against primary sources before relying on it.
5. Acceptable use
- Access is sold and metered through the API marketplace; each request must arrive via the marketplace proxy. Do not attempt to circumvent authentication, quotas, or rate limits.
- Do not scrape, bulk-export, or resell the dataset in a way that substitutes for a subscription.
- Comply with all applicable laws and with SEC EDGAR's terms when acting on the data.
6. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any decision made in reliance on the data. Total liability is limited to the fees paid for this API in the prior 1 month.
7. Changes & contact
We may update the data, endpoints, or these terms; material API changes will be versioned (/v1, /v2, …). Questions: hello@filingwire.io.
